// Metro Ball Hockey Association - Est. 2012

Mission

"To provide competitive, organized, and community-driven ball hockey for players of all backgrounds - run with integrity, played with passion."

The Metro Ball Hockey Association was born from a simple idea: give competitive players a structured, well-run league that takes the game seriously. What started as a handful of friends on a gym floor in 2012 has grown into a seven-team organization with hundreds of registered players, a dedicated arena partner, a formal referee program, and a community that lives and breathes ball hockey every season. We are a player-run association. Everything we do is in service of the game.

Season-by-Season Timeline

2012

League Founded

4 Teams

Four friends decided that the city deserved a proper ball hockey league. With a borrowed gym, secondhand equipment, and a handshake agreement, the Metro Ball Hockey Association launched its inaugural season with four founding franchises: the Blizzard Kings, Iron Wolves, Shadow Strikers, and Cosmic Crushers. The 12-week season had no playoffs - the team with the best record was simply declared champion.

2013

First Official Rulebook

Rules Formalized

After a chaotic inaugural season full of disputed calls and inconsistent enforcement, the league assembled a rules committee and published its first official rulebook. Penalty definitions, crease rules, and overtime procedures were formally documented. A two-referee system was introduced for all games, replacing the single-official format used in year one.

2014

First Expansion & Inaugural Playoffs

First Metro Cup

Two new franchises joined the association - the Neon Phantoms and a fifth team - bringing the league to six clubs. With the expansion came the first formal playoff bracket, contested in a best-of-three format. The Blizzard Kings claimed the inaugural Metro Cup, defeating the Iron Wolves in a tight three-game series that went to overtime in game three.

2015

Iron Wolves Strike Back

Iron Wolves - Champions

The Iron Wolves bounced back from their heartbreaking 2014 loss to claim the second Metro Cup. T. McAllister, playing in just his second season with the club, posted 44 points in the regular season and was named the league's first-ever MVP. His overtime winner in game two of the final remains one of the most celebrated goals in league history.

2016

The Kings' Dynasty Begins

Blizzard Kings - Champions

The Blizzard Kings, anchored by a young Stone Wakefield in net, dominated the 2015/16 season and ran through the playoffs without dropping a game. Their 14-game regular-season record was the best in league history at the time. Wakefield's .906 save percentage in the playoffs set a standard that has not been matched since.

2017

Back-to-Back for the Kings

2× - Back-to-Back

No team had ever defended the Metro Cup. The Blizzard Kings changed that in 2017, rallying from a 2–1 series deficit against the Cosmic Crushers to win three straight, including a legendary 7–6 overtime thriller in game five. Stone Wakefield was named playoff MVP for the second consecutive year. The dynasty was officially declared.

2018

Northgate Arena Partnership

Permanent Home

A landmark facility agreement secured Northgate Arena as the official home of all Metro League games. The move from a rotating schedule of gymnasium bookings to a single dedicated facility transformed the league's atmosphere. Enhanced scoreboards, proper rink markings, and a live PA system were installed before the first game. Fan attendance increased 40% in the first season at Northgate.

2019

Cosmic Crushers Reclaim Glory

Cosmic Crushers - Champions

The Cosmic Crushers ended a five-year Cup drought with a dominant 2018/19 campaign. V. Ramos, in his fourth season with the club, posted back-to-back 30-point seasons and carried the Crushers through a brutal playoff run. The championship was their first since the league's founding era, and Ramos was unanimously voted MVP - the first time in league history the vote was not contested.

2020

Season Suspended

Pandemic Year

For the first time in league history, the full season was cancelled before it began. The league office used the hiatus productively: the rulebook received its most comprehensive overhaul to date, a digital stats-tracking system was implemented, and a formal commissioner role was established. Plans for a seventh franchise were also developed during this period.

2021

Return to Play - Thunder Ducks Debut

7 Teams Return

The league returned with a shortened comeback season and two major developments: a new franchise debuted - the Thunder Ducks - and they made an immediate impact, reaching the Metro Cup Final in their very first year. The Neon Phantoms ultimately won the title, defeating the Ducks in four games, but Rex Callahan's debut season made it clear the league had a new force to reckon with.

2022

Iron Wolves Reclaim the Cup

Iron Wolves - Champions

After seven years without a title, the Iron Wolves mounted their greatest playoff run in franchise history. Led by a resurgent T. McAllister - who posted 52 points in the regular season, breaking the single-season record at the time - the Wolves went 7–1 in the playoffs. B. Durand made his final appearances in goal and was saluted at the end-of-season ceremony before retiring.

2023

Rogue Rockets Enter the League

Wild Card Era

The seventh and final franchise, the Rogue Rockets, was formally admitted ahead of the 2022/23 season. The expanded format introduced a new wild card playoff seed, ensuring all seven teams remained in contention through the final week of the regular season. The Cosmic Crushers claimed the Cup for the second time, defeating the Neon Phantoms in five games in one of the most watched finals in league history.

2024/25

Neon Phantoms Crowned

Neon Phantoms - Champions

The Neon Phantoms capped a dominant regular season with their first Metro Cup championship, defeating the Iron Wolves three games to one. Blaze Holloway was named playoff MVP after posting 18 points in nine playoff games. Coach T. Brannigan received the Bench Boss Award for his tactical flexibility throughout the run. The Phantoms entered the 2025/26 season as the team everyone is chasing.

2026

Record Season Underway

Now

The 2025/26 campaign is on pace to be the highest-attended and most competitive season in Metro League history. Blaze Holloway is six points away from breaking the all-time single-season scoring record of 54. Three teams are separated by just seven points for the final two playoff spots. Playoff format has been expanded to a double-elimination bracket - the highest-stakes postseason in the league's 14-year history.
